Katherine Ann Fiero
Born in Buffalo, New York, USA, Katherine (Kathie) Ann Fiero began studying the piano at 6 years old, the cello at 8 years, and the harp at 12. During the summers of 1968 and 1970, received scholarships to study harp at National Music Camp at Interlochen, Michigan. In 1972, graduated from State University of NY at Fredonai in Music Education, where she studied with Portuguese harpist, Mario Falcao. Afterwards, she studied with Professor Alice Chalifoux of the Cleveland Orchestra.
After coming to Portugal in 1976, she auditioned and was accepted as harpist into the Opera orchestra at Teatro Nacional de Sao Carlos in Lisbon, where she remained as harpist for 15 years, being privileged to work with many fine conductors and great singers. As soloist she performed the Debussy "Danses" with the group "La Folia" in 1988 at the Palacio da Bolsa, no Porto e no Palacio de Queluz. She played many times with the Gulbenkian Orchestra, and on Portuguese Television.
In 1995, '96 & '97 she appeared performing on her Celtic Harp at the Centro Cultural de Belem, Espaco Oikos in Lisbon, and in summer festivals that featured harp with dancing, or other instruments, playing medieval, ethnic, traditional and new age music.
Katherine Ann Fiero's extensive repertoire ranges from medieval and renaissance music, classical music of the 17th-20th Centuries, and American standards from the 30s to the present, along with New Age and show tunes of Andrew Lloyd Webber, etc.
For the past 10 years, she has been performing chamber music with her trio of flute, cello and harp (Trio International), and in duo with her husband-keyboards and harp.
"Strings of Peace" is her 2nd harp recording.
