The exhilaration of manipulating color and conveying emotion through non-objective abstract expressionism has been my motive in creating oil paintings. I deviate from realism and focus on the purity of big, raw color. Like listening to music, I want the composition to be interpreted differently by each viewer in order to achieve a more personal or emotional connection.

Chapel, Tuscon, AZPaintings should be touched and experienced by more than one of our senses, which is why I have discarded the brush for most of my work and use a palette knife to create tangible textures. Unlike murals, where the objective is to use paint as a tool for recreating a lifelike scene, my oil paintings focus on allowing paint to be a pure form of expression. College taught me not to deny paint for what it is.
