What are human rights? Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, whatever our nationality, place of residence, sex, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, language, or any other status. We are all equally entitled to our human rights without discrimination. These rights are all interrelated, interdependent and indivisible. The right to live free, to speak your mind and to be treated as equal. According to the United Nations there are a total of 30 human rights. The human rights are the only ones applied to everyone, they are universal. What are they?

TAHIRIH, FIRST SUFFRAGETTE OF THE 19TH CENTURY
Táhirih, a Persian noblewoman, distinguished as a scholar and poetess, a prodigy of science as well as beauty and a gentle woman with no doubt had a huge destiny ahead of her. She was born in 1817 and put to death in 1852 by the government of Persia (today Iran.) What could have been Táhirih’s crime? To simply be herself and show her beautiful face as any woman would do. She became the first woman on earth to unveil in Iran. It is remarkable to realize that the first woman suffrage martyr was not a woman from the West, but a young woman from the East, a poet named Táhirih, “The Pure One” and sometimes known as Qurratu'l-'Ayn, of Qazvin, Iran.

WHEN THE EAST MEETS THE WEST IN NEW YORK, 1912
The New York Times, Sunday, April 21, 1912 -- Within the last week there has come to New York an old man, with a worn and beautiful face, who wears a long, brown gown and a white turban, and speaks the strange-sounding guttural language of Persia.

A COMBINATION OF THE EAST AND THE WEST
Hong: I was born in Malaysia. After my high school, I received a scholarship from the Institute of International Education to study art education in the USA in 1960. After obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts with high honors, I returned to Malaysia and taught art to secondary students in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and exhibited extensively throughout Malaysia and Singapore. In 1966, I was awarded a Teaching Assistantship and a Fellowship by the University of Illinois to do my MA in Art Education.

These brave women from the early 1900s made all the difference in the lives we live today. Remember, it was not until 1920 that women were granted the right to go to the polls and vote.

BEAUTIFUL SONG CAUSED SINGER AND SONGWRITER TO BE ARRESTED
Behnam Rohani-Fard, a Baha'i Musician and composer who had resided in Tehran for some time traveled to the city of Yazd to participate in the mourning ceremony arranged for one of his family members. In the morning hours of Monday, October 12, Mr. Rohani-Fard was detained by Intelligence agents while driving in his private car; he was taken to an undisclosed location.

"Mankind, man, has lived on this earth over fifty thousand years, and perhaps much longer, or for less duration. During all this long evolution man has not found peace on earth - 'pacem in terris' has been preached long before Christianity, by the ancient Hindus and the Buddhists. And during all this time man has lived in conflict, not only conflict with his neighbour but with people of his own community, with his own society, with his own family, he has fought, struggled against man for the last five thousand years, and perhaps more.

NOVEMBER 12, 1817 IN TEHRAN, PERSIA
At Dawn, November 12 in 1817 in Tehran, Persia (Iran), Mirza Husayn-‘Ali was  born of a noble family that lived  in the province of Núr (Light). His father, Mirza Buzurg, was minister in the court of the Shah. Mirza Husayn-‘Ali (from here on referred to as "Bahá’u’lláh"), descended from Sasaniyan kings of Persia and Zoroaster (a divine Messenger) fulfilling the belief that the great Redeemer of Mankind would be of pure Persian blood.  Bahá’u’lláh was also a descendant from Abraham and his third wife Katurah.
