Poetry by Robert Michell

"The Most Holy Prisoner"

Whatever is done for God is done in joy!

Why was I spared the bitter cup of many
Perhaps to render this strange account?
From the day the sweet
Youth yielded ardour,
A storm broke over us with fury

Poetry by Robert Michell

"The Casting Down of Turquoise"

If it’s to the Land of Roses you’d aspire,
Know that all roads lead across a bridge of fire!

They told me it would be like Stillbirth to the expectant queen
To discard the fruit of well-established pride:
How could I, proud trader in precious stones and gems—
Opals and amethysts for in-lays, and rubies red as grapes,

"Lines Written Upon the Moor"

On the poetic right to passion
I hike upon the sultry moor
where heather tufts abound
And clustered berries grow
in profusion all around.
Rolling fields are broken, here
by crags and rocky spurs

Every Ready Soul Comes

(A brief sample of the story)

Immortal tempest,
Flying raven tail comet,
Bardo dreams clay soil.

She ignored the sensation of queasiness twisting her stomach and reached for the red phone, now on its sixth ring.  “Compochia here, may I help you?” Her voice was crisp and without a hint of the apprehension she felt as the office walls swayed in rhythmic response to the ground tremor now in progress.

The Stubborn Child after Grimm

The Stubborn Child
after Grimm

from Stubborn Child (Jane Street Press, 2005)

His mother had taken him into her grave
where he continued to fidget. Quiet down,
she yelled, or we’ll get no peace here too.
But his arms kept lifting and falling
and his legs moved back and forth in perpetual dance.

You have words on your wings

MariaOn angels wings you fly into my arms
You knew not where this came from or why
Yet there are powers beyond ours
Those who know better and whose vision is world-embracing
Including worlds as yet unknown.
You speak not, yet I hear your voice.
You appear not, yet I see your face,
Your heartbeat is heard in the distance
My soul speaks to you in dreams
Your soul speaks to mine.
Words are not necessary, some say

A Noble Knows

Poems by Maria ChouchtariPoems by Maria ChouchtariA Noble knows that strength and power go hand in hand
Like a sword in its sheath, with meekness and tenderness of heart.
A true Knight needs no armor to slay the dragon.
Only chivalry, courage, fidelity, strength and fearlessness.
A kind word goes far, a kind gesture even farther.
A sense of humor is a cure all and the ability to laugh
Scares the dragons away…
There are many miles and bridges to cross before attaining our goal.
The fight for life is a never-ending battle.
